In the west Tai chi Chuan is most well known as the slow motion routines that groups of people in china practice together as seen in movies and television. Tai chi chuan which translates to English as “Grand Ultimate Fist†is an internal Chinese martial art and health cultivating system, and as such Tai chi Chuan can be practiced by anyone at any age for a variety of purposes ranging from self-protection to health and longevity, also the practice Tai Chi Chuan can also be a great stress reliever since though the slow motions and mental focus it brings the practitioners mind in to a state of mental calm and clarity. The style Tai Chi Chuan derives it name and practices from Chinese theories such as Taoism and Confucianism with aspects such as cultivating ones chi or “life-force†and attaining balance within the concept of yin and yang. Here at American shoalin West we practise Yang style tai chi chuan with the simplified form "Twenty Four" and it's matching two-man set, The simplified Tai chi sword and it's matching two man set, Eight posture staff, Silk Reeling with ball, chinna, pushing hands and chi kung. We devised this simplified form of tai chi chuan practise to suit the modern way of living while at the same time providing all the necessary elements to progress to higher levels of tai chi chuan with minimal effort, Also We here at Red Dragon Kung Fu Academy believe that Tai Chi Chuan will also be of great help to any athlete "anyone practising sports such as baseball, soccer, football, and everything in between" dancer "ballet all the way to modern dance", and/or performer "artists and musicians" of any kind due to the practise of precise movements and focus to which I can attest since through Tai Chi Chuan my health, focus, and skill in other martial arts has been greatly improved.
